A Weekend in Brunei

Taking advantage of a long weekend, we decided to take a short flight to Brunei. The Empire Hotel is a massive hotel that is billed as a six star extravaganza built by the brother of the Sultan of Brunei when money was no object and he had an unlimited supply of money from his brother.

Now the hotel struggles in a country of 350,000 to maintain occupancy, so weekend travel specials are available -- and we thought we'd take a two day jaunt to see Brunei.

The kids had a great time swimming. They had a great kids area with a slide, crafts, and a fun area. We enjoyed hanging out both in the large fresh water lake as well as in one of the seven pools in the complex.

Unfortunately, daddy wasn't very careful as a few seconds in the ocean resulted in a nasty little jellyfish sting for Gabi. Fortunately, she was really brave and she recovered relatively quickly -- feeling much better in the morning.

One evening we made our way into town, saw the famed mosque and even discovered a Dairy Queen.

It was a fun weekend adventure.

And who would have thought we would ever visit Brunei?
