The Hole in the Wall

We are still trying to figure out the cause of the leak, likely from the neighbor , that is causing this one section of wall to bubble and mold.  Hopefully we can get these things fixed and no longer have a hole in our wall.  Sigh – the challenges of maintaining a house in the tropics, while negotiating with landlords and repairmen. 

The riddle to the cause of the leak is made more difficult when the neighbor’s house is left empty. 

Car. Glorious Car.

The 1987 Volvo is looking for a new home.  Cars that have names get special treatment in the lexicon of cars  “Beast” is looking for the new beauty to care and love.  Super cool air conditioning, 2000 RM engine overhaul, new tires, the car is old, but looking pretty good.  Hopefully beast will find a nice home. 

KLIFF Hangers

On Sunday afternoon we got together with the group of expats that go to our church.  It doubled as a first birthday party for Mikaela.  The taco theme made for some absolutely delicious food, though the thunder didn’t cooperate so well for swimming.  After some tag, soccer and hide and seek, the storm clouds and loud thunder (being downtown we got the extra bonus of having the thunder reverberate between the tall buildings) abated and the kids got to swim.  It is always fun to get together. 

With Amanda’s baby, we can remember the time that seems so long ago when our kids were so tiny.  It seems like a different world now!

MPO Musical Magic

Thanks, in part, to a bit of a flu bug going through the middle school, there were some extra MPO tickets available from the MS Music’s band program.  The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is a real highlight, and the kids program was delightful.  They had a magician who did some pretty impressive tricks (made a guy disappear, did crazy tricks with water, turned a piece of paper into an endless stream of confetti, etc) all while an amazing collection of musical pieces including Harry Potter and James Bond.  I was very glad that we joined for a fun daughter-daddy time. 

Gold Class

One of the special luxuries of KL, is the Gold Class movie theater at the Pavilion.  The one theater (of many) is dedicated to only 40 seats.  Usually there are action or Chinese movies showing there, but when Oz, the Great and Powerful was showing there, Daddy decided to splurge and get the kids to come.  With some birthdays coming up, it was an especially good chance to pamper the kids.  We ordered food which was delivered to our seats, and we got to enjoy the luxurious recliner seats, though when the scary monkeys came out, daddy got to cuddle with his daughters as we all joined together in one seat.  Good thing they are huge!

Paintball

While daddy was preaching, mommy rushed to get Reeve to a paintball game for another birthday party.  He came back with a couple of bruises, but it sure was a fun experience with all the stories of trying to get the targets, storm the opponents area and complete the challenges.  What a fun birthday party at a paintball facility just south of town.

Preaching

With the pastor away for much of the week for a conference, St. Andrew’s had to find the best possible replacement preacher for the day.    Well, okay, so they settled for me.  It was challenging and an honor.  Keeping with the theme of Prayer that Pastor Bob had been going with, I looked at an Old Testament prayer of Jehoshaphat from II Chronicles.  I’ll admit my indebtedness to Philip Yancey’s book on Prayer for some of the thinking, and thanks to our church’s webmaster, you can read the sermon. 

Minecraft Party

 

Rania was thrilled to get to go to a birthday party.  It was a busy weekend and lots of fun.  The theme of the party was Minecraft.  Though there were no computers, there were some kids looking a lot like minecraft blocks, an intricate cake and big building expeditions.  The birthday circuit for the young kids is pretty amazing.  What a creative theme and fun event. 

Track Meet

It was so fun to watch Gabi’s competition in the end of the year track meet.  It was a huge event with hundreds of competitors from 8 years old all the way through high school.  We were excited to find out that ISKL ended up winning the tournament, and Gabi got to run the 100m, the 200m and the 4x100m.  She did awesome!  The final relay was excellent with Gabi running the third leg and the team earning a bronze!  She got her picture with three of the four teammates.  The anchor, Kayla, was busy breaking the U9 high jump record for all of ISAC, so she had to rush away after the race.
