Grandma's Birthday

What a wonderful birthday tradition in Ohio!  With several birthdays happening in the summer, there is the fun tradition of breakfast for the girls, party and cake for all (with gifts!).  And this year we had a nice dinner out to eat with the adults while the kids were with babysitters.

A fun memory each year, the fun birthday wishes of grandma brought several laughs - but what a treasure to have such an amazing legacy from family.

Off to Silver Spring

We had to say goodbye to the Woodwards - and Reeve who joined up for a week with cousins.  They got in the car and headed east.  But before, we had to get proof of our connection to the Willits family, as we frequently are seen in the Willits family T-shirts, we got some photographic evidence!

Goodbye. . .for now.

Across from St. Luke's

It is convenient enough to have the red park, and it is right across from St. Luke's so Mark decided he would get a picture to show his diligence in following up on a recent FTC case.

Micah enjoyed playing baseball with Marta, and there were some cartwheel girls on the grass and good times on the playground equipment.

World Cup Action

After vociferously cheering on the US to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ghana at Uncle Jason's during the barbecue, we had our own World Cup soccer match on their big front yard.  It was a dramatic late winner, just like in Brazil.

What fun times during summer, enjoying the outdoors.

Oak Opening Jumps

After the hike, the boys spent some time on the swing, trying to recreate the fun jumps from yesterday.  The swings weren't quite as big as at the red park, but what great opportunities to have some fun outside.  The girls, meanwhile, spent much of the time in the nature lookout, window to wildlife.

Some classic pictures, lots of laughs and lots of do-overs.

Reeve wanted the PhotoShop attempt of being placed in the middle of the jump. .. his hair might give it away from being too unbelievable.

Ferns & Lakes Trail

The cousins went with Doug for a walk around the Ferns & Lakes Trail.  There were a few mosquitoes at the very end of the trip, but not too terrible.  We had a nice walk around the lake and through some of the beautiful sections of Oak Openings.

We tried to recreate the classic picture of three cousins walking in Oak Openings - not quite as natural, nor as cute as when they were young.

But profile pictures of the major players and fun times walking and talking along the trail were part of the outing before lunch.

Red Park Jumps

We stopped at the red park for some big jumps, which was a lot of fun.  The boys went crazy on the huge swings with some big jumps off the swings.  Great evening, big sky, green grass, fun times at the park.

Grand Rapids, OH

Based on Grandpa Barrie's suggestion, we made the drive a bit upriver on the Maumee River to Grand Rapids, Ohio, the nice little town on highway 24 just past the dam.  There was a nice walk along the river, some fun times with cousins, and beautiful weather.

Rania, who is addicted to cartwheels (remnants of last year's addiction to boom-snap-clap), used the wide open spaces to do a number of cartwheels all day.  How great to have the cousins here and having fun times together with the Woodwards from Silver Spring.

Father's Day

We were treated to a delightful Father's Day brunch at Sam's Dinner in Maumee.  After church, with the World Cup playing in the background and lots of great menu options, we had the chance to enjoy a great meal.  Grandpa Barrie, as he frequently does, out did himself with his typical generosity, as all of the Woodwards were treated to a delightful brunch and Father's Day celebration.
