Grade 4 Workshare

I had the opportunity to join the Grade 4 workshare and hear some of the amazing work which Rania has done over the course of the year.  What an impressive and fun event.  Thanks for sharing a great year of learning.

Gymnastics Video

Some of the highlights of the gymnastics showcase.

Gymnastics Showcase

For the last month, the girls have joined some of their friends for some gymnastics at a local gym.  Getting to the downtown gym for Saturday evening can be a bit of a stretch with some of the traffic patterns.  We got to have the final showcase and enjoy the performances as the students showed us what they are doing and how they are improving.  Certainly much better than what I could ever do!

Callan Farewell and Carpool Karaoke

What a fun (and sad) farewell to Michael Callan, as he goes off to Rome.  Even though the video has limited viewing rights, it is a fun reminder for those who can access.

Middle League

One of the fun traditions of the middle school, is the Middle League.  This season is soccer and Reeve's team is wrapping up the season.  Fun to have the evening filled with lots of sports taking place on the lower field.

The Contest

Our Grade 7 Math teacher, Ron Turner, runs "The Contest," and this is my inaugural season.  So we had to get an apple, a ruler and the newspaper from May 22 and send it in.  Ah, the challenges. Instead of buying the newspaper, I took the apple and the ruler into the store to take the picture and then put it back.

That and other strange and unusual events make up the contest.  Some of which involve way too much time wading through long YouTube video clips to find a specific section.

MS Party - SemiFormal

Gabi's friend Charlotte came over after school and they got ready for the MS Party.  Natasha and Rania also got to have some time together for a fun sleepover.  Wow, the year is winding down and it is the final MS Party (for students) with the semi-formal being the big event.

And Reeve's last MS Party forever.  What?  High School coming!?!

Dimitra's Retirement Party

With Dimitra's retirement, the English department had a celebration and going away for her.  Julie James, as always, was an amazing host and there were some really fun (and funny) stories told about Dimitra - including the fascination with Durian and trying to "smuggle" it to Europe.

Melawati Concert

With Rania in Choir, we were part of the Melawati Concert, which takes place in May.  After the concert, there were lots of hugs and smiles.

Birthday Party

Rania had the chance to go to a birthday party after church.  Good times with friends and some great views from the swimming pool.  Also, sure is fun to get to hang out with friends and have big smiles.

Antipodean

One of our favorite after-church restaurants is Antipodean.  Good variety of brunch, breakfast and lunch.  Delicious fruit juices and a fun cafe with the menu neatly scripted on the huge blackboard.

Mosquito Fogging

One of the realities of living in SE Asia, and especially Malaysia is keeping mosquitoes at bay.  In addition to regular fogging, there is sometimes an increase in cases of dengue fever.  Thankfully, our family has not had a problem during our almost 9 years of living here.  But good to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

Coding Club

In preparation for the international code-a-thon, we had our weekly coding club, which is also a great time to get to try some panorama features of the iPhone.

Dining in the Dark

For Labor Day, and with a Sunday evening opportunity, we joined the Spandes, Bouwens, Pastor Bob & Daniella for a Dining in the Dark experience.  What a great opportunity and amazing experience.  It started with the introduction, where we tried to find paperclips hidden in rice while blindfolded, something that was surprisingly challenging.  We were amazed at the pitch blackness of the restaurant and had the chance to taste and guess the flavors based on no visual cues whatsoever.  With our waiter, who was blind, serving us, it was a tremendous opportunity to recognize the challenges that others face.
