Funny Tidbits from a Weekend

The weekend has come to a close; we kept busy, but here are some funny little tidbits.

1) While swimming at Grandpa and Grandma's house, Rania says, "I want to play iPod." A bit later, "I want to play iPod." Hmm. .. in the swimming pool? Finally I figure out she wants to play Marco Polo.

Ahh, these 21st Century Digital Natives confused with a swimming pool game named after an ancient traveler.

2) While watching Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Rania and Gabi each were standing up on the seat, so excited about what was going to happen. Another time, in a quiet, comparatively tense situation, the theater is silent and Gabi is loudly saying, "I'm so scared. I don't like what's going to happen."

Looks like we need some work on movie etiquette, eh?

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

After our Halloween party, we had a great time with Reeve's second grade class watching Flint Lockwood save the world in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Good fun movie.

Before the movie, they had quite the characters decked out in front of a store in some sort of promotion.

It was impressive to see how many people showed up -- and many thanks to the parents who helped organize the event. It was great fun for the whole family and fun for the kids to get to be together outside of school.

Halloween Party Video

Will keep this as a placeholder for the time being -- in the hopes of putting a Halloween video up soon -- fun footage!

Halloween Party

We had a wonderful Halloween Party at the Eisens, friends of ours who live not too far away. With Tracy off in China on an 8 day trip with 9th graders, Doug got day #1 of fending for himself. Hopefully these blog posts can also help Tracy connect with her week away. We figure this might very well be Tracy's first time away from ALL her family. In the past, she has had at least one other family member when away for more than a night or two.

So our Halloween line-up was Reeve as soccer player, Gabi as a gymnast, Rania as 50s dancing girl (she called herself an island princess), and daddy with wacky clothes to be a silly tourist (a good excuse to take pictures).

We had fun games and good food. Making spider webs by throwing around a ball of yarn. Reeve (and daddy) were dressed up as mummies, then we got to clean up our messes!

Presents from Fiji

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2009

Grandma came back from a library consulting trip to Fiji -- and we were proud recipients of some fun new clothes!

A Day at the Park

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2009

The progression of our after-church day might very well be told in these pictures. What started like a great idea -- getting something to eat, playing at KLCC, going to a HUGE playground in the shadows of the twin towers -- all were great ideas.

But of course, with little kids, the delicate balancing act ends up with overstaying your welcome, kids in tears, and wondering -- why do we do this?

This was all part of our Deepavali weekend -- the Indian Festival of lights. Some intricate sand art is part of the celebrations that we see.

An MPO Concert

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2009

We are blessed to have a world-class concert hall and a great symphony orchestra in downtown Kuala Lumpur. In a beautiful concert hall, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) has a great variety of performances. I got to go to a Western Theme music, complete with Oklahoma, Bonanza, Lone Ranger, Singing in the Rain, and many Western classics in addition to a 20 minute 1922 silent movie (with live orchestra accompaniment).

With a dress code of suit jacket OR long-sleeved batik shirt, my dad and I had a wonderful evening of quality music.

Juvy's Birthday

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2009

We had a nice little celebration for Juvy's birthday. After going out to dinner, Tracy had made a cake. The kids enjoyed giving her the present they had helped pick out (and managed to keep the surprise!). We are incredibly blessed for all that Juvy does to help our family.

Childrens Sermons at St. Andrews

As part of our experience worshiping at St. Andrews, Tracy and Doug have the opportunity to lead Sunday School for the young ones, and Doug also takes a monthly slot in leading the Children's sermon.

Thanks to Siew Kam's great photography, here are a few shots of our kids and Doug leading the children's sermons.

After church, we sometimes have fun playing on the playground.

When I grow up. . .

Our conversation on the way home on a Sunday afternoon.

"Do you have to be a mommy or a daddy when you grow up?" -- Reeve

"No, some people aren't." -- Tracy

"I want to be a veterinarian when I grow up." -- Gabi

"I want to be an astronaut and a skate board rider when I grow up." -- Reeve

"When I grow up, I want to be a cheetah." -- Rania
