Malaysia Week Review

After all the middle school returned from Malaysia Week, Doug had the chance to put together a fun little video with some of the best memories from an amazing week in the tropical rainforests.

Here is the video.

Malaysia Week: Reeve's Week

While Doug was in the rainforest, Reeve was diving in the Perhentians. As part of the week, he completed a Reef Check course to get additional SCUBA endorsements.  What incredible experiences.

Malaysia Week: Doug's Week

Here are a few of the fun pictures from Doug's Week at Malaysia Week, surviving in the jungle of Gunung Kutu.

We explored waterfalls, climbed a 1000m peak, cooked all our meals, learned jungle survival, and then went white water rafting on the last day.  How amazing to spend a week with such amazing kids in such a stunning setting.

Muffin & The Stuffed Animal

Muffin, so you know, was rescued from the street by our amah's boyfriend.  So we are keeping her and see if she is a good fit with our dog Chocolate, who seems a bit lonely.  Tonight, we looked out the window and Muffin was sleeping next to the stuffed animal.  How cute.

360 Camera Visit to #Frim #Malaysia #theta360 - Spherical Image - RICOH THETA

Doug got the incredible privilege of being a chaperone with the Grade 7 students, who went to FRIM (Forest Research Institute, Malaysia). We got a tour of the area, including a visit to the canopy walk.

What fun!

Muffin!

Well.  We have a new puppy.  At least for now.  We'll see how well we can do with training Muffin.  She sure is cute. . .but quite a nipper and licker.

ISKL's 50th Gala

We got to celebrate ISKL's 50th by attending the Gala celebration.  What a celebration; how interesting to hear stories from Robert B Gaw, as well as some of the other previous head of school's.  It was interesting and fascinating to be part of quite a celebration.

Toward the end, the celebration ended with a galorous fashion show.  It was fun to see our colleagues, Monica Tindall, Sarah Jones, Max Wright, James Caudle and others on stage!

Rugby Tournament

Reeve has shown incredible promise and improvement as part of the rugby team this year.  His "sense of the game" and "smell of the ball" as his coach says, are pretty impressive.  He is playing scrum-half.

In addition to all the tackling and running which he does as part of the team, one job is to put the ball into the scrum (above).  Then, hopefully, his team is able to win the scrum and the ball will come out on his side so he can get it and pitch it to a teammate to start the offensive run (below, waiting for the ball).
On a super hot and sunny day, it was fun to see Reeve's success, smiles and hard work!

Gabi's 50th Performance

Here is a clip of Gabi's performance at Stall's Night for the 50th Celebration.

Super Grandma & 50th Celebration

For the 50th celebration, they had the choir sing at the 50th Stalls Night.  To avoid the crowd, noise and entrance fee, the alumni, Super Grandma arrived and helped save the day with transportation by getting Gabi to her elementary choir performance which was part of the celebration. How amazing to have ISKL celebrating 50 years!

Time with Grandma!

What a privilege to have grandma around.  It is fun to get to have her in the country, in our house and enjoying part of the adventures of our family.  Now that the snorkeling buddy is gone, she has been busy volunteering at local libraries, as well as being super-grandma with our kids.  Yea!

You can see one enjoyable way to spend the start of the weekend!

Teenager!

With this birthday, suddenly we have a teenager in the house.  One of the big traditions is the book that Grandma puts together for her grandchildren on their thirteenth birthday.  It is full of advice from adults that have been a part of Reeve's life.  What an amazing treasure.  Reeve enjoyed reading through the book.  There were also some games (Scattegories) and a little finger football (soccer) game.  Happy birthday to the best son in the world!

Bunny Cake

We couldn't have Easter season AND grandma here without the wonderful tradition of bunny cake.  From the US came some of the jelly beans, gluten free ingredients and how fun to get to have a delicious treat during Easter.

St. Andrew's Reunion

Mom had the chance to visit St. Andrew's after our return from Spring Break.  It was especially fun to see Chin Chin and Reverend Tok.  Fun to have even brief reunions and reconnections with others.

Halik Reef - From Below

On our last dive, we had some amazing sights - some huge bumphead parrot fish - which Ong, our guide found.  It was truly beautiful - and we got to see the snorkelers above us, which was lots of fun!  What a great way to end the last dive of a great week - and now we have 4 certified divers in our family.

Halik Reef - From Above

Our last dive was beautiful - no surprise!  And Grandma and Rania were snorkeling and saw some funny looking fish (that looked a lot like us), got to karate chop our bubbles, saw turtles and showed what it looked like from the surface looking down at the divers.

Fun.
