Cancer Research

It was not until after Malaysia Week, but I did get to share the day with Dr. Norma Hudson, who also shaved her hair to support cancer research.  In total, we raised nearly 4000 RM (roughly $1300 US) and there were probably 10 students and about 15 faculty members who shaved their heads for cancer research.  Good fun!  I haven't shaved my head since teaching at Colegio Roosevelt - and losing a World Cup bet when Nigeria fell to Argentina in 1994 (though they later ended up winning the group).

Poetry Performance Pix

Getting to see the Grade 2 poetry performance as a huge highlight.  While the video is below, we got some fun pictures of Rania - who certainly enjoyed the limelight of being on stage.  What a great experience for her!

After the event, we got to see some of her art work and also get some photo ops.

Poetry Performance!

What a thrill to be back from Malaysia Week and have the morning to visit the Grade 2 Poetry Performance!

MW Pulau Perhentian 2014

While Reeve was away on a rainforest site, Doug was away doing a Eco-reef check SCUBA site with other students.  What an amazing week with some great dive experiences in the Perhentians.  It was Doug's first time in the Perhentians and it was a fabulous experience to be able to see so much marine life.  We built some structures to help regenerate the reef, and our final dive had the chance to see a turtle and some great sights.

MW Gopeng 2014

Reeve went off on his first Malaysia Week - it was a rainforest site in Gopeng - and a truly amazing experience.  It was incredible to come back and hear about Reeve's trip.  They went on a jungle hike and saw a rafflesia in full bloom, the went white water rafting and got to do a body-surfing rapid as well as some good water on some big rapids, he did a high ropes course, where he was a superstar on the leap of faith, he abseiled off a waterfall, went through a massive cave on a spelunking expedition - and had lots of team bonding times.

What an amazing experience!

Tooth

Someone lost a tooth!  A reminder of how quickly the childhood phase of our family is passing, as the youngest is running out of teeth to lose.

Easter Morning

It was an unusual Easter morning with Reeve and Doug heading off on different Malaysia Week trips, but the girls were home to enjoy the Easter baskets that were put together.  A celebration of the risen Lord!  The girls also got to enjoy an Easter brunch and time together while the middle school was away for the week.

Tree Removal (Indy)

We had a Chinese Elm that we loved when we moved into our house in Indianapolis, but eventually too many branches fell and it caused too many problems, so we had it removed.  The tree vendor finally came and removed it this week. A few months later, our amazing tenants sent pictures of the house without the tree.  Thanks to their yard work, the house is looking great!

It seems a long ways from Kuala Lumpur, but so many amazing memories from our first home.

Playdate

The girls had a friend over, and part of their fun was putting together a bit of a video.  They had a lot of fun planning out their video.  Not sure that the final product got enough footage, but all evidence is of a lot of fun was had.

Bye-Bye BMW (suitcase version)

In a tiny bit of housecleaning, we decided to let grandma Woodward's old suitcase find a new home.  The nice little suitcase  Beryl Marie Moore was part of our packing efforts when moving to KL and bringing as much as we could (in the days when luggage could be 70 lbs!).

Who knows the stories this suitcase could tell.  But now it will
go find a new home.

Thinking Collaborative Global Conference

Both Tracy and Doug participated in the first ever Thinking Collaborative Global Conference.  With a star-studded group of presenters from Cognitive Coaching and Adaptive Schools, we enjoyed two and a half days of intense work.  Hearing Bob Garmston was a special highlight.  Since both parents signed up, we juggled SCUBA training, two birthday parties and several other crazy events.  In the end, I think it was six different families who helped us out during the weekend.  While we sure miss having grandparents to solve issues like this, we sure were thankful for the support from the ISKL community in helping with our kids!

A Birthday!

Another birthday celebration came quickly after the first one!  Due to Malaysia Week, conferences, weekend events, we had the big birthday sleepover scheduled for later in the month, but enjoyed the birthday dinner and yummy birthday cake.

One of the big gifts was a new board game - where we work together (and against each other) to save the world from global warming by building renewable power plants.  The game has quite a learning curve, but was an interesting experiment!

Sleepover

As part of the birthday celebration, Rania had some friends over for a special sleepover.  What fun to see the girls enjoying such a good time.  Lots of laughter and lots of big smiles.

JUMP camp

In preparation for leadership roles next year in fifth grade, Gabi & the rest of the grade 4 had a JUMP camp - where they went off timetable, camped at ISKL and went through a whole bunch of leadership experiences.  Due to continuation of the very heavy rains, they got stormed off the field and ended up camping in the gym.

Thanks for the Grade 4 teachers for arranging all of the events and fun experiences at school.
