Malaysia Week 2013

This year Doug had the chance to go to Gunung Kutu, a jungle survivor site.  It was sure a lot of fun.  Thankfully, our plane crashed right where the bus happened to drop us off - and thanks to our survival skills, some orienteering skills, some great chefs, and 4 nights of camping, we were able to survive our ordeal.

A favorite picture, and are all the pictures of our trip - most of which Doug took.

Night on the Town

Doug's mom had worked with one of the WASC accreditation members who was coming to visit Kuala Lumpur as part of the five year visit to ISKL.  At the end of the week, we had a delightful dinner with Scott Anders, Rebecca Lemos, 4 Woodwards and Gary Davis and his wife.

After a delicious dinner at the Chinese Restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental, we had a beautiful walk around KLCC park.  What a site at night.  Living in KL, you sometimes forget some of the breathtaking skyline views that we take for granted.

Add in a full moon, and it is beautiful!

KLIFF event

It was our turn to host the KLIFF hangers event.  (Kuala Lumpur International Family Fellowship) with a group from our church.  Thanks to grandpa & grandma's pool, we were able to clear a nice space to eat (what delicious food!), order pizza and have some fun around the pool.

It is always fun to spend time with friends and connect with other families.

Grandma found a big blow up toy.  It didn't last very long - a powerful kick did it in.  But Reeve and Samuel had fun with a bit of a punching bag.

Reeve had been pretty tired and actually wiped out, sound asleep as the party started.  But as the pizza came, some food, rest and a big water polo duel with Samuel made for some fun.

MPO Family Fun Day

Thanks to the generosity of grandpa and grandma, our whole family got to enjoy one of the Family Fun days at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.  It was a concert where we got to hear the organ as we took a tour of music through history.  The Inspector who was supposed to discover rhythm was unable to come as a guest conductor, so it was a replacement schedule.   Still lots of fun to have some beautiful music.

Malaysia Week Preparations

One of the highlights of the middle school year is Malaysia Week.  Of course, part of the fun is doing whatever Karen Palko deems a good idea - so here is the latest silly antics in preparation for packing.

Do you notice the Hunger Games survival skills at their best? (If the video is cut off in your browser, can watch it here.)

And another couple of more minor clips. The first is the last part of the previous one. (I guess Karen thought it was especially funny, so she added it again?

And here is the last one - a brief cameo reminder about medicine protocol.

Such silliness!

Sleepover

When we found a free weekend, Reeve was able to invite some of his closest friends to be able to be part of a birthday sleepover.  Movies, ice cream cake, games, and lots of penalty shootouts in the tiny goal in his room.  Fun times with two good friends.

A Birthday

How fun to celebrate a birthday.  Cake, presents (some from his sisters were re-wrapped to remember long forgotten toys) and good times.

One of the big hits from the birthday was getting Monopoly!  It's been an awfully lot of Monopoly in the short time after the birthday.  Rania especially enjoys getting to have use of her older brother's birthday gift.

Orcas @ Author's Day

Unfortunately, both mommy and daddy had obligations at school for the Author's Day in Grade 1.

Never fear, Grandpa rushed to the rescue and saved the day! What a great chance to share the latest non-fiction hit, The Orcas.

Tree Trimming

Strangely, the trees across the street just got a massive hair cut.  Strange and not sure of the reason.  We tried asking the guys, but of course they didn't speak much English and were just following the orders from the municipality.  We've noticed a bit less shade in the late afternoon, which is a bummer.

Now we'll see how long until the debris is cleaned up.
